Naturfarbene Baumwolle | Natural colour cotton

Naturfarbene Baumwolle

Natural-colour cotton
Coloured cotton is naturally pigmented and is organically cultivated.
Humans have cultivated this usually creamy white, light brown, chocolate brown, light pink or mauve natural fibre for thousands of years. The individual types are called ‘Algodón pais’. However, the shorter, natural-colour fibre is harder to produce on an industrial scale and is only now regaining importance in comparison to white cotton, which is preferred for dyeing and printing. Why choose organic cotton? The plant requires less water than more common cotton, is far more resistant to insects and disease, is not dyed and needs no fertilisers or pesticides.

Hanf | Hemp

Hanf

Hemp
Hemp has been used for thousands of years in the production of ropes and cords. The natural vegetable fibres can be used in many ways for the finest fabrics as well as for modern processing and synthetic materials. The robust hemp fibre feels soft and cool against the skin; it is somewhat heavier than cotton and absorbs moisture well. Why choose sustainable hemp? It provides strong, durable fibres and requires little water, pesticide or insecticide. Clothing made from hemp provides UV protection, is biologically degradable, of high quality and has a good environmental scorecard.

Bambus | Bamboo

Bambus

Bamboo
Bamboo is a fibrous plant that has been cultivated for thousands of years in Asia. In the textile manufacturing sector this fibre is a subject of contention. Many manufacturers offer textiles made from bamboo fibre, but these mainly consist of viscose, a chemical fibre derived from bamboo cellulose. In its pure state this relatively brittle natural material has only a limited scope of application. Why choose sustainable bamboo? This is a very rapidly renewable fibre: it can grow up to a metre a day and produces more oxygen than any other plant on Earth. It produces four times as much recyclable wood as oak, for example.

Ramie

Ramie

Ramie
Ramie is also known as ‘Chinagrass’ and belongs to the nettle family. This silky, light fibre was used in textile manufacture in Egypt as early as 7,000 years ago. Similar in appearance to linen, it is strong, keeps its shape well and is highly tear-resistant. As this fibre can become brittle if folded repeatedly, it is often mixed with cotton or wool. The fabric is used as an alternative to linen as it is significantly cheaper to manufacture. Why choose sustainable ramie? These flax-like fibres can be harvested up to six times a year. To guarantee a high fibre yield, harvesting takes place immediately following the flowering phase. The plant provides fibre for up to 20 years.
